Kenneth Thomas
Kenneth Thomas is a Governance-Focused Fractional CTO who works with independent school executive directors, heads of school, and governing boards to eliminate hidden technology risk and establish clear board-level oversight. His work sits at the intersection of technology strategy and school leadership, helping institutions identify cybersecurity exposure, vendor accountability gaps, and AI governance blind spots before they disrupt operations.
With more than 20 years of enterprise IT leadership spanning education, media, broadcasting, and government, Kenneth brings a perspective that is both technically grounded and leadership-focused. He has led technology strategy and operations at organizations including New England Sports Network (NESN) in Boston, AT&T, Keiser University, Florida Health, the Florida House of Representatives, and multiple county and municipal governments across Florida. That breadth of experience across sectors gives him a clear view of what separates schools that govern technology well from those that discover gaps only after something breaks.
Kenneth founded his advisory practice after observing a consistent pattern across growth-stage independent schools. Technology environments were growing faster than governance structures. Vendors were multiplying. Cybersecurity expectations were increasing across the education sector. And governing boards, the people ultimately responsible for institutional risk, often had limited visibility into the systems their schools depended on every day.
His 90-day engagement model is built around one outcome: giving school leaders and boards the clarity they need to make confident decisions about technology risk, vendor accountability, and long-range planning. He does not replace operational IT teams. He works alongside them to build the governance layer that connects day-to-day technology operations to board-level oversight.
Kenneth holds an MBA from Florida A&M University, a Master of Science in Information Technology from Florida Tech, and a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Florida State University. He is currently completing his PhD in IT Management at National University. He has served as IT Faculty and Program Director at Keiser University and as an Adjunct Instructor at Florida A&M University, where he developed curriculum focused on technology leadership and management.
He is a New Leaders Council alumnus through the Tallahassee Chapter and has been recognized for his contributions to progressive leadership and community development in Florida.
His approach to school technology governance draws on direct experience managing large-scale IT infrastructure, cybersecurity programs, vendor portfolios, and technology policy across organizations serving thousands of users. He translates that experience into practical, board-ready guidance that school leaders can use without a technical background.
Kenneth believes the most important technology conversation in a school is not happening in the server room. It is happening in the boardroom. His sessions equip school and district leaders with the questions they need to ask, the risks they need to understand, and the governance structures they need to put in place before a technology failure forces the conversation.
He is based in the Tallahassee, Florida, area and works with independent schools across the country.
