Andrew Marcinek is the Director of Information Technology at Seattle Preparatory School. He brings over two decades of experience in education and technology leadership, having previously served as Chief Digital Learning Officer at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, CIO at Worcester Academy, and as the first Chief Open Education Advisor for the U.S. Department of Education. In that federal role, he led efforts to expand open education policies nationwide and helped launch the #GoOpen initiative, fostering partnerships with Amazon, Microsoft, and Edmodo to support school districts in adopting openly licensed educational materials.
Andrew began his career as a high school English teacher in Philadelphia and later became an Instructional Technology Specialist at Burlington High School, where he co-led one of the first 1:1 iPad initiatives in the country. He also created a pioneering, student-run tech help desk that served as a model for schools across the U.S.
An accomplished author, Andrew has published two books: The 1:1 Roadmap and Teaching Digital Kindness. He holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Miami and an M.Ed. from Eastern University. He lives in North Andover, MA, with his wife Caroline, their daughter Clara Rose, and their chocolate lab, Harper.
