AI is everywhere in students' lives, but do they know how to question it? This session introduces responsible AI literacy, a set of competencies that helps K-12 students learn about, explore, and critically interrogate all aspects of artificial intelligence. Beyond the who, what, and when of AI, responsible AI literacy pushes students to ask why and how decisions to use AI affect individuals, the environment, and communities, both positively and negatively. You will explore a responsible AI literacy framework, an inquiry method students can use to analyze artificial intelligence and automation and answer both simple and complex questions about computing, people, and rationales. You will also examine the sociopolitical impact of generative AI and the core components of responsible AI and tech justice. Leave with a stronger foundation for helping every student build critical knowledge about the technology shaping their world.
