Learn Everywhere: Using Technology to Extend Field Trip Learning
Are your field trips more sightseeing than learning? This poster presentation shows how to design meaningful field trips that connect directly to the curriculum, equalize background knowledge and turn students from passive travelers into active learners. Discover how to replace traditional scavenger hunts with student-centered structures that promote observation, inquiry, creativity, collaboration and reflection. Learn to set pre-trip learning targets, choose venue-specific engagement strategies, assign student roles and use simple technology such as QR codes, photos, audio and short videos, then build post-trip reflection and assessment tasks that extend the learning back in the classroom. You will choose a venue, identify a student learning challenge, select strategies from a cross-curricular activity menu and sketch an implementation roadmap you can use right away. The model works for museums, aquariums, libraries, STEM venues, historical landmarks and local community sites, so every outing becomes a true extension of classroom learning.
