Today's students live in a world of constant digital stimulation, from smartphones and social media accounts to some of the apps they use in class, and sustained attention and deep learning are increasingly difficult. This workshop explores how educators can redesign learning environments to better align with the modern student brain. Using insights from neuroscience and cognitive science, you will examine both the positive and negative effects of technology in the classroom, along with how Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) affect cognitive development in K-12 students. Explore strategies for increasing engagement, reducing cognitive load and fostering authentic learning, all with the appropriate, balanced and thoughtful use of technology in and out of the classroom to support individual student growth. You will leave with practical tools to create distraction-aware lessons that connect more deeply with students, helping them find greater success in their learning and a greater love for the process of learning and gaining knowledge and skills. All workshops are BYOD and require All Access or Session + Registration to attend.
