Assessment Puzzle Reboot: Experience and Redesign Your Practice

When a machine can complete the assessment, it is time to redesign the assessment, and it does not have to take hours. Do it puzzle piece by puzzle piece. In this workshop, you will experience a full assessment reboot from the inside out, starting as the student. Work through a redesigned multimodal assessment that uses visual diagrams, annotations and voice reflections to capture genuine thinking AI cannot replicate. Then experience clear, structured AI guidance at the start of a lesson and interact with an intentionally designed AI scaffold, seeing firsthand the difference between guided AI use and uncritical AI completion. Finally, flip to the teacher lens and use a structured reflection process to deconstruct this layered approach and apply it to your own practice. You will be able to explain why text-only assessments are vulnerable to AI-generated responses, make the case for a layered, multimodal approach and design clear guidelines for how students can and cannot use AI within an assessment before learning begins.
