Vibe Coding for Access: Building Custom AT Tools for Every Student
What if you could build a custom assistive technology (AT) tool for a specific student in under 20 minutes, with no coding knowledge and no budget? Vibe coding makes this possible. Using natural language prompts, educators can create read-aloud apps, visual task organizers, AAC boards, math manipulatives and social story generators tailored to a student's needs and IEP goals. This poster presentation walks through the vibe coding AT design process, using the SETT Framework as the design brief before prompting AI. Explore how to analyze student profiles, identify AT gaps and write prompts that produce student-specific tools. Special attention is given to evaluating tools for IEP alignment, data privacy and student safety, and to documenting and legally grounding custom tools under IDEA. Leave with a prompt template library organized by disability category and a replicable process you can share with your IEP team or AT committee as a new low-cost AT pathway. No coding experience required, just a student who deserves the right tool.
