Using AI to Improve Math Intervention

Math intervention is the highest-leverage place to improve student outcomes, yet most AI tools fail at this work. They teach procedures instead of understanding and remove the productive struggle where real learning happens. This workshop offers a different path. You will learn a diagnostic framework for analyzing student work built on three questions: Did the student use a procedure without understanding? Are they tangled in a surface feature? What misconception produced this work? Together we will practice this analysis using real student work samples. Then you will use AI math coaching tools, designed for teachers rather than students, to translate that analysis into targeted intervention activities grounded in conceptual understanding, and you will see clearly where AI helps and where it hurts. Bring a device. Leave with a working diagnostic protocol and intervention activities you can use Monday morning. Interventionists can apply the protocol to their caseloads, classroom teachers can use it during planning, and coaches can use it to structure conversations with the teachers they support.
