Tech That’s Worth the Screen Time

Parent groups are organizing, research is raising flags, and the conversation about screen time in schools isn't going away. Educators need more than a defense; they need a better approach. This poster presentation explores what research says about high-impact technology use versus passive screen time, including why less than 10% of students learn effectively with AI-driven independent platforms. You will see how traditional instructional strategies pair with technology to make both more powerful, and how to design learning where technology drives creativity, critical thinking and real student work. You will leave with a practical framework for evaluating any tool or activity against high-impact instructional strategies, plus a planning tool that maps those strategies to technology use, which you will practice applying to a lesson you already teach. It works across content areas and grade levels and fits naturally into team planning and coaching conversations. The goal isn't to fight the pushback, but to make it irrelevant.
