Learner’s Lens: Portfolios & Student Showcases Aligned to the Portrait

What if students became the storytellers of their own learning? This poster presentation shows how Palos Heights School District 128 turns its Portrait of a Learner from a static framework into an authentic, student-centered experience through digital portfolios and student-led showcases. In grade 3 and grade 5 STEM and Art, students curate meaningful artifacts, reflect on their growth and demonstrate connections to Portrait competencies: perseverance, communication, innovation, wellness and citizenship. Explore the structures, reflection processes, instructional supports and showcase formats that amplify student voice, build confidence and deepen learning while linking student work to strategic district goals. You will leave with practical tools, reflection prompts, planning considerations and implementation strategies adaptable to any grade level or content area, plus a roadmap for creating student-led showcases that make learning visible, strengthen family engagement and empower student ownership.
