Innovation Doesn’t Scale Itself: The Influence Behind Personalized Competency-Based Education

Innovation is not a design problem; it's an influence problem. Districts across the country are launching Personalized Competency-Based Education (PCBE) models, yet many stall between pilot and scale. This workshop explores the evolution of Empower[Ed], a nationally recognized PCBE model that integrates Career and Technical Education pathways, learner agency and authentic experiences through competency-based learning pathways. Examine how Empower[Ed] moved from concept to implementation, including the structural shifts required in scheduling, credit attainment, assessment and community partnerships. More importantly, take an honest look at the realities of scaling innovation: why strong models stall, how readiness varies across buildings and what it takes to sustain momentum beyond early adopters. Through the Intentional Influence and Cultural Mapping process, you will leave with a clear understanding of the structural and cultural conditions needed to expand initiatives in your own system.
