How Would You Hack Your District? Turning Offensive Thinking into Defensive Action

School districts remain prime targets for cybercriminals, ransomware groups and other threat actors seeking to disrupt operations, steal sensitive data and exploit limited resources. In this highly interactive workshop, you will step into the role of the adversary and work with colleagues to answer a challenging question: if you wanted to compromise a school district, where would you start? Rather than following a scripted presentation, participants collaboratively build a realistic attack scenario against a fictional K-12 environment, guided by real-world cyber incidents and current threat actor tactics, identifying likely attack paths, vulnerable systems, high-value targets and operational weaknesses. Then the workshop shifts from offense to defense as the group identifies the policies, procedures, technologies and security controls needed to prevent, detect and respond to the attack. You will learn to assess risk from an attacker's perspective and align security investments with your greatest exposure, and you will leave with a prioritized, crowdsourced set of defensive strategies you can implement immediately to strengthen your district's cybersecurity resilience.
