Jean Darnell is the newly appointed Director of Library Sciences for the school district of Philadelphia. Prior to arriving in Philly, she worked 13 of her 24 years in education as an English teacher and librarian in the Houston and Austin area schools in Texas. Jean has also taught history and ESL. In addition to teaching middle and high school, Jean served as a teaching librarian at the elementary school level. She has done volunteer work with various organizations ranging from national library associations to technology based computer associations. Jean's current work in AI is to make sure it is as ethical and as transparent as possible. Most recently, she appeared on Dr. Phil PrimeTime show to discuss AI from an educator-librarian's perspective. Additionally, she is a 2023-24 Pulitzer Center Teacher Fellow.
