Prof. Eric Hawkinson

Eric Hawkinson is an internationally recognized learning futurist who explores how emerging technologies shape the future of education and human potential. As a professor at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, Eric designs immersive learning experiences that combine pedagogy with innovation. His projects include augmented reality tourism games, mixed reality escape rooms, and virtual Model United Nations simulations. His research focuses on how XR, AI, and automation are transforming the ways people teach, learn, and connect across cultures. Founder of Together Learning, Eric also serves as Research Coordinator for the MAVR Research Group, Chair of the World Learning Labs, and developer of the educational AR platform Reality Labo. He leads community initiatives like Team Teachers and contributes to TEDxKyoto and Forever Kyoto. Recognized as an Adobe Education Leader, Google Certified Innovator, and Microsoft Innovative Educator, Eric is committed to digital literacy, open knowledge, and privacy by design. He is the author of over 50 academic publications and the creator of several award-winning educational games.
