Dr. Edward Cohen brings over two decades of expertise in K–16 education with a focus on STEM innovation, makerspaces, and climate change pedagogy. As Associate Director at Rutgers University's Center for Math, Science, and Computer Education (CMSCE), he leads professional development and curriculum design initiatives across New Jersey and beyond. He is also the founder of The Energy Museum, a nonprofit committed to engaging learners of all ages in hands-on STEAM experiences that explore the essential role of energy in everyday life.
Dr. Cohen’s work is grounded in real-world problem solving and project-based learning. He has served in multiple roles—including teacher, professor, vice principal, and district STEAM supervisor—and holds certifications in science instruction, supervision, and school leadership. His international work includes a Fulbright Scholarship to Japan and curriculum development aboard the JOIDES Resolution, a research vessel exploring Earth’s climate history.
Recognized as the Eastern U.S. Outstanding Earth Science Teacher by NAGT, Dr. Cohen presents regularly at NSTA, NARST, and AGU. His current focus integrates the Nature of Science, design thinking, and technology-enhanced learning to empower educators in addressing climate, sustainability, and equity through innovative makerspace programs.
