Associate Professor of Music Donald Sorah is in his twentieth year serving the Visual and Performing Arts Department at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise (UVA Wise). A passionate and innovative educator, Dr. Sorah teaches a variety of music courses including his highly popular Everyone Can Create Music With iPad course. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Apple Learning Coach, and is a two-time recipient of the Outstanding Use of Technology in the Classroom award from UVA Wise. He is an advocate for open educational resources, having created four free textbooks (Composing With Found Sounds in GarageBand, Everyone Can Create Music With iPad Curriculum Guide, Book of Rhythms and Melodies Vol. 1, Book of Rhythms and Melodies Vol. 2) and leading his Music Appreciation students to create five introductory music appreciation textbooks. A champion for publishing student work outside the classroom, his students have published on the Apple Book store and have released albums on all major music streaming platforms.
Sorah holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Florida State University, his dissertation investigating use of educational technology in secondary school music programs. He is a member of the International Society for Technology in Education, completing certification this summer.
