Dr. Dan Sturdevant serves as the Head of Virtual Learning at OptimaEd, and is both a practice and scholarly leader in integrating immersive computing into K-12 classrooms. He is the former founding Head of School at Optima Academy Online, the world's first Virtual Reality based school of record, and a leading voice for VR integration in all classrooms. In his time at Optima Academy Online, Dr. Sturdevant and his faculty successfully proved and scaled the concept of a VR based instructional model, outpacing the state achievement average in all subjects.
Prior to his time at Optima, Dr. Sturdevant taught history and economics for over a decade, coached soccer, XC, track and field, and golf, served as a division leader and as Head of School. He is a staunch advocate of experiential education for all students, empowering teachers to make their curriculum their own, and of building opportunities to experience spatial computing for all students.
Dr. Sturdevant is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, Duke University, and Wheaton College. He is a fellow in the most recent class of the Reform Leaders Summit at The University of Notre Dame, and
