Should I Be Using That App?

January 15, 2025
SOUTH 230G
School Leaders
The use of internet applications in schools has led many educators to use whatever they can find online without considering student personally identifiable information and how it may be used. This use was even more pronounced during the pandemic with vendors sending out free access to schools for limited use. Many teachers began using these tools without knowing the issues that may be presented. Learn how one district began to take this into consideration and is working to resolve the issues being confronted by the necessity of COPPA, CIPPA, and FERPA when working with vendors and public education. These issues also tend to cross over into digital citizenship lessons for students and adults alike. Some districts may already have their own methods in dealing with these regulations, but others may need the jumpstart of just knowing how important this is.
