Talking to Parents about AI: Strategies and Prompts
January 16, 2025
EXPO HALL LEADERSHIP ROUND TABLES: BOOTH 3386
District Leaders
Parents and caregivers, like many people, are anxious and uneasy about artificial intelligence. As schools adopt more AI-powered tools and add AI literacy to their curriculum, how can teachers and administrators better communicate with the community? This session will provide practical experience from parenting classes to advise your school to communicate empathetically and work to mitigate those fears. This session will address common fears and myths that families come to the table with, how to address those concerns, and provide interactive activities with AI-powered tools to help attendees facilitate an understanding of AI concepts for families. Additionally, we believe in the collective efficacy of dialogue and will have the opportunity for participants to ask questions and seek clarification on any aspects of AI literacy and communication strategies. This allows participants to address specific concerns or challenges they may face in their own communities through the presenters and the attendees that will facilitate discussion of practical tips and strategies for actively involving parents and caregivers in the AI literacy process. Furthermore, attendees will be provided with resources, tools, or handouts they can use to further their understanding of AI and facilitate communication with parents and caregivers.
