Table 18 - Sewable Electronics: Introducing Soft Circuits for Fashion and Design!
January 14, 2025
SOUTH 320EF
Sewable electronics combine traditional craft processes (sewing, fashion design, and textile design) with electrical engineering, coding, and hardware skills. Many e-textile projects replace traditional wiring with flexible materials such as conductive thread and fabric. These e-textiles are often wearable, flexible projects that look less like traditional electronics and more like media art projects. Join us to channel your inner seamstress, seamster, or sewist and introduce your students to hands-on creative activities that involve sewing. You'll bring your design to life using felt, conductive thread, a battery, a holder, and LEDs. Explore how you might add a sensor with a microcontroller and program it to respond to sound or light! Add other inexpensive craft materials to create your own work of art and gain access to lesson plans and resources to support integrating these activities into your classroom.
