SOUTH 230A
District Leaders
How do we not only encourage our female and black/brown students to choose IT fields for careers but also provide them opportunities to become leaders in the IT field? Taking a look at our curricula, schools, districts, and communities, how can this be changed? As educators we can provide opportunities for our diverse students to be exposed to IT jobs and careers in our schools. Cisco Networking, Oracle Academies, Adobe Creative Suite, Robotics, and STEM, encourage our diverse students to become engineers, technologists, network administrators, etc. In this conversation, we will explore the world of female IT leaders and discuss how we can encourage our diverse group of students to become a part of and have a voice in this field of the future. Organizations such as NCWIT, Girls Who Code, Girls in Tech, etc. are some programs that can be done in your school to encourage girls to become passionate about technology. In this presentation, I tell my personal journey over the past 27 years and was able to implement these programs in the school district.
