Wired for the Real World: Authentic Learning in the Digital Age

District Leaders
Today’s students need more than content—they need context. They need real-world learning that sparks purpose, passion, and possibility. In this dynamic session, Dr. Jordan Cox will share how Commack School District is revolutionizing K–12 education by designing immersive, tech-enhanced environments that give students authentic, hands-on experiences aligned to careers, societal needs, and their personal interests. Commack’s transformation starts with Discovery Dens in elementary schools—STEAM-rich hubs of exploration and continues all the way through to entering Commack High School, where students engage in career-focused experiences through innovative spaces like a Bloomberg Finance Lab, a Law and Justice Courtroom, eSports Den, Art Gallery, and soon, a Medical Simulation Suite. This presentation explores how technology acts as an accelerator, not the centerpiece, of meaningful learning. Dr. Cox will share actionable strategies for visionary leadership, space design, and building a K–12 continuum where students explore futures, test-drive careers, and graduate ready for what’s next. Walk away inspired to reimagine your schools—not just as places of instruction, but as launchpads for real-life readiness.
