Zombies Are Coming! Data Without Dialogue Creates Walking Dead. Here’s How to Fight Back.

January 12, 2026
EXPO: IT THEATER: BOOTH #2643
District Leaders
In this session we’ll expose how the industry’s obsession with quantitative data has unintentionally reinforced a compliance mindset – “keep the numbers within range”—without truly discovering why those metrics exist.  In contrast, we’ll unpack a rapidly emerging core leadership competency: shifting from complying with metrics to competing on experience. We’ll actually show you how the most successful districts are using practical cutting-edge technology to gather, interpret and action on qualitative voice feedback, triangulate it with critical local context, and pair it with industry informed interventions, to impact their most critical system outcomes and save millions of dollars in the process.

When metrics are dismembered from human voice, they create the walking dead— clusters of smart, dedicated people wandering in the dark—consuming time and energy chasing lifeless metrics that tell, at best, a fraction of the story.  Welcome to the age of the data zombies: teams trapped in compliance mode, reacting to dashboards, convinced that these lagging indicators are “early warning signs” that, in reality, arrive long after the real damage is done.

This is the paradox of our era: data has never been more abundant, yet without dialogue, it might as well be dead. When AI can process the thoughts of tens of thousands of students, staff, and families as fast as a calculator runs times tables, why are we fixated on shallow numbers alone? It’s finally possible to give your data a pulse!

When faced with the apocalypse of change in public education, arming your team with rehumanized data gives them something to run with, not from!
