TABLE4: Process, not Product: Crafting AI Strategies for High Schools at Scale and Speed

January 13, 2026
EXPO: LEADERSHIP ROUND TABLES: BOOTH #1645
School Leaders
Why is an AI strategy for high schools so elusive? I present findings and experiences from the formation of the Centre for AI In Canadian Learning (CAICL). We were chartered to provide AI Literacy certifications and a collaborative environment for rapid feedback cycles among independent schools. Member schools had been stranded on the leading edge of educational innovation by AI disruption and were struggling with the dilemma of transforming an environment that historically did not permit them that role. CAICL provided modern collaborative tools and AI-powered learning environments that acknowledged there was no one-size-fits-all approach. Answers are the domain of AI; if there had been a straightforward answer to the problems of academic integrity and the place of AI in assessment and self-study, it would have been as close as ChatGPT. The paradox and opportunity presented was that the future of education shares issues with the future of work: the new role of humans is not to compete with AI to come up with answers, but to design the process for asking better questions.
