Students are already turning to AI, and increasingly for companionship and emotional support. In fact, a recent Harvard study found that mental health is now the most common reason young people use AI tools. The question isn’t if they’re using it. It’s what kind of AI they’re using—and whether we, as educators, are prepared to guide that experience. In this thought-provoking session, Superintendent Tobin Novasio explores how school leaders can proactively respond to this cultural shift by offering safe, therapist-informed AI that doesn’t replace human connection—it promotes it. You’ll see how districts are using AI to meet students where they are, while gently steering them toward real-life relationships, trusted adults, and healthier coping strategies. Walk away with a clear vision of how this technology can be ethically deployed, what guardrails ensure student safety and privacy, and how your district can embrace innovation without losing the human touch students need most.
