Students with learning differences deserve access to tools that prepare them for the real world. This session introduces a new model for using AI-powered simulations to support Special Education students in developing critical life skills, navigating social situations, and progressing toward IEP goals. Through immersive 3D environments and AI Learning Companions, students can safely rehearse real-world experiences like taking public transit, managing emotions, or participating in a job interview. We’ll share pilot results from NYC’s District 75 and others, showcasing how these digital simulations improve communication, independence, and engagement for students with developmental disabilities. Participants will leave with practical guidance on designing accessible digital content, aligning it to IEPs and UDL frameworks, and using AI as both a supportive teaching assistant and role-playing partner for student learning.
