Welcome to the Gym for the Brain
Educators face daily pressures that affect both their own wellbeing and the learning environment they create. #SameHere Global’s “STARR” Gym for the Brain at FETC offers practical strategies to manage emotions in the moment, model healthy practices for students, and strengthen classroom connections. When educators and students practice regulating their nervous systems, students become more present, focused, and engaged, creating a calmer and more productive learning environment that directly supports academic success.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Flagler Schools, Steelcase, and Perdue, the Gym for the Brain at FETC was intentionally designed for comfort, conversation, and practice. Drop in anytime to join a fireside style chat session, explore beginner exercises designed to educate you on what parts of your body each of these modalities work on, connect with others, or simply take a breath. Each visit strengthens educators and equips them with actionable tools to bring back to their classrooms, colleagues, and schools.
Open throughout the four days of the conference, this dedicated space invites participants to slow down, recharge, and experience #SameHere’s “STARR” — Stress and Trauma Active Release and Rewiring — Exercises that help regulate the nervous system and rewire emotional responses to stress. Whether new or experienced, conference attendees will find approachable practices that build confidence and resilience, and give us a diverse set of tools to help students.when we notice that their demeanors and/or behaviors have changed.
Educators will also learn how to build their own gym with STARR Exercises available via: 8” X 10” STARR Cards and via videos in the SameHere Scale app, providing a proactive mental health toolkit. Key learnings from this approach can easily be implemented schoolwide, so you can continue teaching and building mental health routines long after the conference ends.
