Recognizing connectivity needs exacerbated during the pandemic, East Moline School District 37 looked to find a solution. Hotspots? Wi-Fi on buses? In partnership with other school districts in the area, the Common Ground Wi-Fi Project was born. This project deploys a private, community-wide Wi-Fi network, providing equitable internet access to over 4,500 students. Using advanced wireless mesh technology and robust cybersecurity, it connects underserved areas, providing all students with reliable internet access to extend learning beyond the walls of school. Join this session to learn more about the planning, implementation, and upkeep processes that made this dream a reality. Hear about the successes and the challenges that have come along, as well collaborative efforts with local governments, community organizations, and technology providers. While many districts grapple with these same issues, we can collectively work to change the game for our students.
