AI’s Impact on AR, VR, XR – Updated State of the Art

January 12, 2026
EXPO: IMMERSIVE THEATER: BOOTH #2245
School Leaders
One of the greatest impacts of AI is in other technologies. Nowhere is that truer than AR, VR, and XR. See how far things have come on a mobile phone or tablet. Explore how it's changed the headsets from Apple and Meta. See them up close to learn how powerful they have become. See the mind-bending apps and how they would work in a classroom. Explore why and how this should—and can—be part of an innovative school. What will be the impact on students' lives? Implementation and budget recommendations. The cost of AR/XR/VR hardware is less than the adjusted cost of the VCR was when it was launched. There are viable options for schools without a class set of headsets. Non-headset based Mixed Reality applications will be shown, reviewed, and student work shared. Free software for creating AR and VR worlds will be demonstrated, and participants will explore those options on their own devices. Participants leave with a Google Doc with all links, reviews, applications, and the presentation itself.
