Formative assessment and instruction are essential for increasing student learning and achievement. Providing tools and instructional resources to effectively collect formative data, as well as providing instructional materials to respond to the data is a huge challenge for teachers. This session will highlight how teachers can harness the power of AI tools to efficiently and effectively create these important components of effective formative instruction. The session will outline the process of using generative AI tools (ChatGPT/Gemini) to create formative assessment probes that identify common students misconceptions. Participants will also learn how to utilize generative AI to create differentiated lessons to address each of the misconceptions identified by the formative probe. Lastly, the session will assist participants in their understanding of how to utilize AI tools to create formative quizzes to then assess overall student understanding of the content.
