"Birds in Our Backyard"is an engaging project designed for upper elementary students and higher to discover the fascinating wildlife right in their own communities. This interactive session will guide educators and technology enthusiasts through integrating this project with students, including the use of 3D printing and laser-cutting technologies. Learn how to lead students through the design thinking process, from researching local bird species to creating birdhouse designs using Tinkercad and prototyping with 3D printers and laser cutters. Explore resources including grant funding opportunities, relevant fiction & non-fiction texts, example activities, and digital tools to support project implementation. Attendees will explore various ways to help students develop essential skills such as safety, empathy, collaboration, research, critical thinking, and citation, all while fostering creativity and scientific exploration. By the end of the session, educators will be equipped to implement this hands-on project in their classrooms, providing students with a meaningful learning experience.
