New at FETC!

VerAttend, FETC’s Official Program Attendance Verification System

This system will allow you to track your attendance for Keynotes, Concurrent Sessions and Ticketed Workshops.

FETC representatives will be available at each session to scan your badge as you enter, if you wish to track your attendance. Following the conference you will receive an e-mail with verification of your participation. It will then be your responsibility to present this verification to your professional development director for continuing education credits. It is also up to individual organizations to determine how they will credit your participation.

If you have questions regarding earning credit for renewal of your Florida teaching certificate by attending FETC, please contact your school or district’s staff development director.

Ocoee Middle School Tour
"Florida's State Demonstration School for Technology"

Friday, January 15, 9:15 am – 1:30 pm

Through the actions of the State Legislature and the help of Orange County Public Schools, Ocoee Middle School underwent renovations to transform it into a demonstration school for the state of Florida.

In an effort to develop a “break the mold/ technology-based” facility, this project was assigned to the SMART Schools Clearinghouse (smartschools.state.fl.us), and began with extensive discussions on how middle-school-aged children learn and how technology can enhance learning.

The school features:

  • A design that emphasizes the community aspect of learning, designed from the ground up with student learning in mind. The design includes two classrooms in every team area with operable walls which allows for flexibility in the size of instructional space.
  • An infrared audio enhancement system in every classroom and wireless microphones that are worn by teachers so students can hear lessons clearly.
  • Ceiling mounted projectors and document cameras in each classroom, accompanied by large screens for viewing morning announcements, videos, and multimedia presentations.
  • Imaging software, account management and curriculum applications.
  • Students using classroom online curriculum resources, such as Explore Learning Gizmos, Riverdeep, and United Streaming, as well as collaboration Moddle sites.
  • Implementation of professional learning community standards and 21st century skills curriculum.

Ocoee Middle School continues to stay on the cutting edge by piloting many new technologies. Here are some new technologies in use:

  • Utilizing and eventually developing projected 3D content in partnership with Texas Instruments DLP division.
  • Audio Enhancement and Panasonic technologies have been integrated into a full-functioned classroom presentation system, including new teacher microphones that allow wireless volume adjustment and automatic muting.
  • Promethean interactive whiteboards with current presentation software for planning interactive lessons.
  • Digital gaming coupled with learning in the Dimenxian math gaming program from Tabula Digita.
  • Classroom software integration including Read 180 (Enterprise Edition), System 44, Scholastic Reading Inventory and Reading Counts, Accelerated Math, Classworks, and FasttMath for math fluency.
  • Digital game creation labs for developing critical thinking and reading skills.
  • Podcasting staff development for on-demand training through Ocoee Middle School University and Teachscape and PD360°.
  • Individual student responders from Turning Technologies and Renaissance Learning for instant feedback and assessment of comprehension.

Ocoee Middle School continues to stay on the cutting edge by piloting many new technologies. You won’t want to miss the exciting opportunity to tour this amazing school!

A tour of this revolutionary facility will be offered on Friday, January 15 from 9:15 am - 1:30 pm, and will accommodate 100 participants. A light lunch will be provided. Sign-up is required and will be available in the registration area along with tour details.
